Classes

UTS Fencing Club holds fencing classes on a regular basis at the UTS Sydney Boys High Gymnasium on Cleveland Street in Moore Park. The beginner's fencing classes are tailored to those who have never fenced before and gives an overall introduction to the sport. For those that are interested in continuing with fencing, UTS Fencing Club also holds intermediate fencing classes for those that have completed the beginner's fencing class.

2008

Beginners' Class

Beginners' Fencing Lessons - Group B
Dates: Wednesdays August 13, 20, 27, September 3
Time: 6.15 - 7.30pm
Maximum: 14 people per class

Beginners' Fencing Lessons - Group C
Dates: Saturdays September 6, 13, 20, 27
Time: 2 - 3:30pm
Maximum: 14 people per class

Beginners' Fencing Lessons - Group D
Dates: Mondays September 8, 15, 22
Time: 6.15 - 8:15pm
Maximum: 14 people per class

The cost to participate in one of these classes is $110. UTS alumni/staff/students should check with the Sports office for the current UTS community rate.

To participate in the above fencing classes you will need to register your interest at the UTS Union Sports Office in person, via email to aimee.purcell@uts.edu.au, phone 9514 1454 or fax 9514 1893. Payment must be received before the start of the class. If you are a UTS Advantage Program member you will also need to supply your membership number.

All equipment will be supplied by the club for class usage. All participants for learn to fence classes should wear long track-suit pants, T-shirt and sport shoes. They should also bring along a leather or gardening glove for their dominant hand.

If these class times don't suit you please email contactus@utsfencing.com specifying whether you can attend on a Monday or Wednesday night or a Saturday afternoon. We need to have at least 6 people interested to hold a class.

Intermediate Class

Intermediate fencing classes are for any fencers who have already completed a beginners class.

Intermediate Fencing Lessons - Group B
Dates: Wednesdays September 10, 17, 24
Time: 6.15 - 8:15pm
Maximum: 14 people per class

Junior Classes

Musketeers Program

The Musketeers Program is especially designed to bring the joy of fencing to youngsters (Ages:8-12 years). Participants will learn the tradition, technique and strategy of fencing in a happy and stimulating atmosphere. Through fencing games and play, participants will learn the importance of cooperation and the spirit of fair play; at the same time; they will also develop confidence and fitness. Special attention is paid to safety.

Time: 2pm - 3:15pm
Cost: $130 (which includes the usage of equipment: masks, jacket, gloves, electric foils and electrical scoring machine)

Youth Talent Program

This program is developed by UTS Fencing Club for 13-16 year old with little or no experience in the sport of fencing. It is designed to impart the basic techniques, skills and strategy required by aspiring fencers. Participants who completed the level I course would be able to further their skills by undertaking more advance levels. The program is instructed by Australian National and State Representatives, Commonwealth, National and State Champions.

Footwork Classes

Footwork classes are held on Monday nights from 6:30 - 7pm at a cost of $2 per session.

The classes are given by Senior Members of the club and cater for all levels from Beginner through to advanced.
