UTS Fencers receive Union Blues
In an awards dinner held on 6 December, UTS Fencers Tracey Green and Michael Howard were two of only six people to be awarded with a Full Blue for their achievements in sport.
The Union Blue symbolises the highest level of sporting achievement that a student can win and is consequently highly sought after.
Tracey and Michael are part of a strong team that has gone to the Australian University Championships currently being held in Melbourne at Monash University.
Pan Pacific Masters Games
A strong team of UTS Members competed in the Pan Pacific Masters on the Gold Coast November 12 - 14 and came home with a hoard of medals.

State Team Championships
UTS teams have competed strongly at the State Team Championships winning 3 gold medals and 2 silver.
Men's Epee: A UTS composite team captained by club member Peter Chicco won the Men's Epee event on the 24th October.
Men's Foil: With our 2 top fencers missing from the team due to injuries, the men's foil team comprising Alex Carioti, Peter Chicco, Joe Slowiaczek and Ashley Yue lost a hard fought match by one hit to the winning team and ending up with the silver medal.
Women's Epee: Also with 2 of our top fencers missing, Adele Haswell, Julie Seggie and Melissa Yeung lost by only 3 hits to Sydney University and placed 2nd.
Women's Foil: The team of Tracey Green, Georgia Read, Anna Slowiaczek and Dione Vosper defended their title from last year to win the event.
Men's Sabre: James Fordham, David Hoffman, Michael Howard and Michael Read also defended the title for UTS to win gold.
UTS Sabreurs dominate New Zealand National Championships
Three UTS Club Members took a trip to New Zealand for their recent National Championships and dominated the competition in the individual and team events as you can see by the results below:
Men's Sabre Individual: Gold to James Fordham, Silver to Michael Howard and 5th to Michael Read.
Men's Sabre Teams: Gold to the NSW (UTS) Team comprising the above three fencers.

UTS fencers compete in Novice State Championships
UTS has added another State title to their collection with Charles Carroll winning the Novice State Championships on October 10th. This is Charles' second Novice competition victory.
Also competing from UTS where Ian Bryant, David Longfield and Long Nguyen who ended up 9th, 10th and 17th respectively.
UTS Fencing Club wins Foil and Sabre Club of the Year
Australian Fencing Federation awards UTS with Foil and Sabre Club of the Year.

National Championships
UTS fencers have excelled so far at the Australian National Championships winning 2 golds, 2 silver and 1 bronze so far.
Frank Bartolillo won the Individual Men's Foil for a record equalling 6th time, with Steve Augoloupis finishing in 6th position. They then were both selected in the NSW team that went on to win the Men's Foil Team Event.
Melissa Yeung also made the final of the Women's Sabre event ending up 6th and was included on the team that came away with the silver medal.
In Women's Epee, Adele Haswell won the bronze medal in the individual event and the silver in the team event.
We have 4 strong hopes for the Men's Sabre event as well as a couple in the Women's Foil which are both being held tomorrow.

World Veteran Championships
Volker Hrovat represented Australia at the World Veteran Championships in Krems, Austria, in September. The number of competitors was buoyed by the European location with a 100% increase from last year’s event. With a high standard of fencers competing, Volker excelled in both foil and epee. In Men's Epee he was placed 11th and in Foil 14th.
NSW State Sabre Championships
UTS has finished with 5 out of 6 State Titles after the State Sabre Championships on September 5th.

NSW State Foil Championships
UTS has won 3 out of 4 State titles contested so far and has kept it all in the family.
Adele Haswell won the State Women's Epee title last weekend with her husband and sister winning the Men's and Women's Foil titles respectively on Sunday 29th August. UTS also came away with a Silver and a Bronze.

The State Open Sabre Championships will be held on 5 September.
Eszter Hortobagyi competes in Athens
On Friday 27th August, Eszter competed in 35 degree heat in the Athens Olympics Modern Pentathlon Event. This is the 2nd time that Women's Pentathlon has been included in the Olympics. Pentathlon involves 5 sports, Fencing, Shooting, Swimming, Riding and Running. Of the 5 sports, Ezster's best result was 5th in the Riding Event with an overall final result of 20th.
NSW State Epee Championships
Mens and Womens State Open and Veteran Epee Championships were held on Sunday 22nd August.
UTS ended up with 2 gold and 4 bronze medals across all 3 events contested - the Women's Veteran event wasn't held due to only 2 competitors being present.

On Sunday 28th, the State Foil Championships are being held with several medal favourites in both the Mens and Womens events competing for UTS.
Frank Bartolillo has a tough match in Athens.
Frank who was seeded number 25 going into the competition drew number 7 seed Hanxiong Wu from China. Frank started well getting the first hit and being down only 2 hits 9-7 at the first break. Some missed opportunities with off target and non-landing hits by Frank led the final bout score to be 15-8 in Wu's favour.
Frank's final standing was 27th at his first Olympics Games.
